Starting his Cloth Wipes

So, I have started making Little One's cloth wipes. We had some leftover flannel so I started with that. My dad helped me cut them out into 7" squares. We used the envelope style to make them. So they are smaller than 7" but they are still plenty big. Out of the scraps, I got 4 double-sided wipes. To "seal" the middle, I put an 'S' for his first initial (which I'll reveal after he's born).

I also bought a yard of flannel (not totally boyish but I don't think he'll mind if it's wiping his behind) from Joann's fabric and craft store. It was a remnant, which means what was left on the bolt. Since it was a remnant, it was half off. We also went to Hancock Fabric and they had their flannel on sale for half off. We also had a coupon for 20% off. So $3.50 for the first yard, and a little more than $6 for the other 2 yards.
So far, I am guessing 30-45 more pairs. Plenty for the little one's buns! I have a My Little Pony container that someone gave me that I will probably try to use. A spray bottle is probably the last thing I need and will most likely need to use water. So, about $10 (plus the cost of the thread) for 3-4 dozen. Just to let you know how you can get wipes for cheap, if you are on a tight budget. Plus, it is a nice little project to show your little one what you can make.
My dad also made me a changing pad also using the envelope style. He used PUL fabric also from Joann's from their new Babyville Boutique line. He also used the cotton batting and double layered it. It is not perfect, but it is still so cute! He also sewed two lines so I could fold it in thirds to fit in a bag. It is about 15" by 24" without the seam allowances, so a little smaller. A nice little project that you can do. The PUL was a little more expensive at 14.99 a yard but we had a coupon for 40% off. It was worth it because it is a wipe-able material, which means any messes can be wiped off without really messing with the fabric. I will upload pictures later when I can!

Christmas "Presents"

The little one didn't get anything for Christmas but my dad did buy him his first car seat! I got the Graco stroller/car seat combo. It is orange. It is not the exact one I wanted but it is still a pretty good one at a good price. I also picked up a contour changing pad for 13.74 that was on Clearance at Target.

We also ordered his crib online so it should be here sometime soon. We got him two sheets and, of course, his crib mattress.

I did manage to pick up some little socks which were 3/.99 at a local resale shop. They had good prices and some really cute socks. My aunt is going to give me my cousin's bassinet (which isn't that old). So, he will have that the first few weeks. He has a few outfits, but nothing to overwhelming. I do wish he had some more but I have quite a few "bodysuits" which I probably think he will live in. He does have a couple pairs of shoes, including one Children's Place and a pair of boots.
Those are all the ones that are size 0-3 or 3 months. No newborn because by the time he is in them, he'll be out of them. He has his first pair of Sperry's boat shoes (super cute) in a size 3 probably in time for summer and also his first pair of Converse (of course) in black also in size 3. He has enough shoes (even though people say he doesn't need them).
I think he needs more clothes but it is hard to find good looking boy clothes that aren't "offensive" as in stupid or plain. I don't like that only girls have cute clothes. I think boys are underrated because us moms want them to be cute too. If I'm going to dress cute, why can't I do the same for my little boy? I think it's stupid. I also hate how changing pads and shopping cart covers and even sheets have so many "feminine" options but not too many that are even blue! I feel like boys are doomed to be surrounded by female things. I'm not against "boys need to be separate from girls" but I still think that we should let boys be able to learn fashion so that mom isn't looking at them when they're 25 and still buying their clothes. I want my boy to look presentable, even if it is in jeans a t-shirt but nothing that says "I'll sell my sister" or something stupid. I think those shirts are offensive and let the parents get away with no actually caring about what their kids look like.

Midwife Appointment 31 Weeks

I had my Midwife appointment today. It was one of those days where if something could go wrong, it was sure trying! I had to shoo the cows out from around the car when I was trying to leave. I then realized that I needed to get gas. Then realized I had the wrong gas card. I got gas ($2.95! a gallon) but only put in a half tank. I then realized that the cows decided to lick my windows. Okay, not too bad. Til I get to the Hospital (where the midwifes are right next door). That is when I realized that they not only licked my windows, but my whole hood (I have a mustang, with a long nose, so you can imagine the Damage.) and also my passenger window. It looks like they were trying to use my poor car as a saltbox. When I got to my Midwife appointment, they take my urine but I didn't have to pee! I did just enough. The appointment went good. My son sounds healthy with a heartbeat in the 130s. He was kinda moving but he was mostly sleeping (like he likes to do when Mommy wants his to be active). My midwife said he might be long since I likes to headbutt my pelvis and stick his feet in my ribs at the same time. Me and his father aren't that tall (I'm 5'5" and he's about 5'8") but could be because my father's family is tall. You never know what genetics are going to do to your little one!

Kicking and Finals and Mickey Mouse Clubhouse!

Well, my son has decided that he wants me to hurt mama during finals, but only when I need to concentrate enough to write down. But it has been nice for him to active quite often because he doesn't scare me! He is usually active at bedtime or time for morning. He goes CRAZY when I put on Ghostbusters, so either he recognizes it or he does like it or he wants it gone! I have been trying to play more Mickey Mouse Clubhouse so he can get used to it before he's born. I am planning on going to Walt Disney World for his 1st birthday and I want him to know who Mickey is. I know some may say that screen time is bad for a baby, but I'm not gonna let him stare at it all the time and won't start until about 6 months. I also have books with Mickey and other Disney characters (including my favorite Alice in Wonderland, Peter Pan, and Duffy the Disney Bear). I also want to get some Jake and the Neverland Pirates movies or books. I think he might like it but I gotta start with the basics (and classics) with the Fab 5 (Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Pluto, Donald, Goofy) and one special lady, Daisy Duck. If you've never seen Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, I would suggest it. It is mostly meant for older toddlers and does have some bigger words (stubborn, exasperating) but does show all kind of emotions, including sadness, confusion, and disappointment. It does show how we all can be friends and help you cope with those feelings. I do enjoy the catchy songs and how much counting there is. It is educational but I do not feel like it really dumbs down other "kiddie" shows. It does "talk" to your child like others but also doesn't give a huge pause to make you think too much but concentrate on the show more.

Cloth Wipes

Since I am using cloth diapers, my mom thought why would I be using disposable wipes? Mainly because I thought it would be a little easier to get acceptance. But, we have found some scrap flannel that I will cut up to make wipes. With flannel, you do you really "need" to sew the edges up because it does not pill up like fleece. Most people say you need at least 2 dozen, or about 2-3 for each cloth diaper change. So, for my son due in February, I'll probably need about 24 the first day alone! I better get moving.
